Kitchen: Before/After strikes again!

I’ll be the first to say the photos aren’t the best – I need a wide angle to really do it justice. Here we go:

Before

This kitchen had generic crap cabinets with minimal storage & drawers.

After

We took advantage of the 10′ ceilings in the space & ran a second level of wall cabinets. Also of note:

  • custom spice rack,
  • backsplash
  • undercab lighting
  • & cart storage garage.

How to Remodel a Conventional Kitchen into a Modern One

*Editor’s note: This post was lost when we revamped the site about 3 months ago. Here it is again for those who may not have seen it the first time.*

Walking the Talk with Ikea Kitchen Design & Installation

We designed & installed our own kitchen last November. The old one was 14 years old, and I needed an Ikea kitchen to use & show off.  So here it is, with custom wall cabinet doors, a wine cubby, some floating shelves & some really happy owners.

Kitchen: Before

Cramped. Dead end. Dark. Raised panel tiredness. Not inviting. Small. Insanity provoking.

Kitchen: After

Open circulation. Well lit. Ample storage. Energy Star appliances. Green finishes.  Easy to use, even with multiple people, dogs & cats. Great kitchen design for parties.

The Design: Before – After Modern Kitchen

I can say firsthand that living in & using this kitchen daily for 6 months now has been a pleasure, to say the least. It’s modern, usable, easy on the eyes, and the oven & dishwasher doors no longer hit each other.

If you’re ready for a modern kitchen, we’re ready for you.

Re-post: Before/After – Alexandria VA

Editor note: This post from the old site got lost in the recent web switch, so here ’tis again for those who may have missed it.

Long Distance Ikea Kitchen Design: Northern VA

BEFORE. Here you have it, ladies & gents. Orange, in all its Before Renovation splendor. This was a small townhouse kitchen in dire need of updating. Note the exposed hinges, lack of counter space, dark appliances & base cabinets really closing in the space.

Before Kitchen. Orange!

AFTER. We relocated the fridge to the opposite corner so we could extend the countertop & add a bookshelf  & wine cubby.  We left the sink & dishwasher in their current locations. We also inset a tall pantry cabinet with pull-out shelving into the existing pantry space. More storage, less clutter, more counterspace!

Concealed hinges, white cabinets with under cabinet task lighting,  & white appliances open up the space tremendously. And obviously, the Cat approves.

How’d that remote collaboration work out for ya?

Good – no hiccups. It requires a little more effort on communication, both over the phone & via email, but overall a snap. & with Skype, very affordable.

She sent me measurements & photos, I laid the new space out & put together the complete order for her. I uploaded it to their server so when she went to the store to order & arrange delivery, they could pull it up & rock & roll.

Painless & simple.

Design from a Distance

Ikea Kitchen Designs & Orders Compiled

Let’s say you want some help with your kitchen design, but are overwhelmed by the whole Ikea ordering thing.  Not everyone lives within reach of an Ikea store, where they can get help laying it all out. Enter EcoModernism.

We recently completed designs for people in London Ontario, the Kansas City area, and Alexandria VA. We put together their planner files, walked them through the ordering process and got them on their way. In fact, the Alexandria VA kitchen has been completed.

Got Skype?

All it takes is a couple of phone calls, emails to send along pictures & measurements, and a few days.  So if you want some help designing an Ikea kitchen & ordering it, we’ll walk you through the jungle no matter where you are.

How to tell when it’s installation phase @ EcoMod

Concepts to the Right, Jobs to the Left

Our job progress boards on the left side are mostly empty.  Not because we don’t have any, but because they’re all out in the field being installed right now!

On the right side is where all our concept designs hang out until they go into full blown design. That’s when they migrate over to the left.

Sort of like that unwritten rule about escalators & moving sidewalks in airports:

Stand on the right, walk on the left!

& yes, that letter hanging on the far right is indeed one we received from the White House & signed by the man himself. It’s awaiting framing.

Greatest Hits!
