Staying in?
So. Gas is crazy. The earth is getting hotter. Food prices are going up. What does that mean for home (and local community) life?
More of us work from home. More of us are walking to get the things we need and do the things we want to do, whether it’s a pick up basketball game, darts at the pub, gardening, or grabbing a couple of things at the grocery. And less of us are eating out – saving both gas and food money.
Not eating out means eating in, which instead of a chore can be fun, adventurous, and healthy. Even if you’re learning how to cook, there’s nothing stopping you from the adventure angle of eating at the old homestead. Don’t feel like going to the grocery, but have a few things that might come together for a decent meal? Check out Supercook. Just plug in ingredients you have, and it shoots back a concoction that probably turns out better than you think.
Progressive dinner parties are a great way to explore new menus, pool resources and hang out with neighbors.
And since it’s a buyer’s market out there home-wise, and you either don’t want to move or can wait out the slump, maybe a kitchen update is the ticket. You get a new place to be your own chef, and share with that progressive dinner group.
While you’re at it, you can give the bathroom a facelift with dual flush toilets, wall hung vanity and some modern tile and shower digs. You get new creature comforts, and if you decide to sell, it helps the price tag out.
